The US behind the protests in Irán

The destabilising protests that continue in the Islamic Republic of Iran are unfolding while the Yankee empire increases its direct threats against Tehran. A few days before this escalation, the genocidal Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a declared enemy of the Iranian state, was received by the White House tenant to celebrate the start of the new year, a meeting between accomplices that suspiciously, days later, turned into verbal and confrontational attacks on Iran by Donald Trump.

After the meeting between Netanyahu and Trump, the latter issued an intimidating and confrontational message. «If Iran shoots and kills peaceful protesters, as is their custom, the United States will come to their rescue. We are ready and prepared,» Donald Trump wrote.

This message comes from someone who has supported the bloodshed in Gaza, who has ordered the extrajudicial execution of fishing boats in the Caribbean, accusing them of alleged links to drug trafficking without presenting any evidence, and from the same leader who has imposed sanctions on judges of the International Criminal Court for issuing arrest warrants against the criminal Israeli prime minister.

From Tehran, the response was bold and immediate. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described the US statements as «reckless and dangerous» and wrote that «Iran’s security and internal affairs are not material for adventurous tweets». At the same time, he clarified that attacks on public property and government offices cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.

Ali Shamkhani, advisor to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, was even more explicit in his warning. «Iran’s national security is a red line,» he wrote, adding: «Any hand that attempts to interfere with Iran’s security under any pretext will be cut off with a response that will cause regret.» The message was aimed directly at Washington and made it clear that Tehran interprets the threats as an attempt to open a new front of aggression. For his part, Ali Larijani, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, argued that the United States and Israel are behind the current escalation. «Trump should know that US intervention in Iran’s internal affairs will cause chaos throughout the region and the destruction of US interests,» he said.

In the same message, he added that «the American people should know that Trump is embarking on a dangerous adventure and should be concerned about the safety of their own soldiers.» Iranian authorities link this verbal offensive to recent events. Months ago, the United States carried out bombings on Iranian territory under the pretext of neutralising facilities linked to alleged military nuclear development. That attack was carried out as a «preventive» measure, but Iran denounced that no verifiable evidence was presented to support such accusations, recalling that international organisations did not confirm the existence of nuclear weapons in development.

In this context, various governments have warned that the current protests are being used as political fuel to replay a script already applied in other countries in the region and in the Middle East itself with the misnamed Arab Spring, a process that began with legitimate social mobilisations and ended up leading to external interventions, prolonged internal wars, fragmentation of the state, economic collapse and loss of sovereignty in nations such as Libya and Syria, leaving thousands dead, mass displacement and the installation of scenarios of permanent instability that benefited US interests and were completely alien to the affected peoples.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela officially declared its support for Iran and condemned Washington’s threats.

In its official statement, Caracas said: «The Bolivarian Government, faithful to its vocation for peace, reaffirms that the only path to lasting stability is sovereign dialogue and diplomacy, without foreign interference. We urge the international community to promote spaces for understanding where Iran’s inalienable right to resolve its internal affairs under the framework of its own legality and autonomy is respected.»

To follow up on the statement and reinforce the position previously expressed, the Venezuelan communiqué added: «The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela expresses its deep concern over the recent confrontational rhetoric issued by the Government of the United States of America against the sister Islamic Republic of Iran. In this regard, Venezuela expresses its firm solidarity with the Iranian people and government, calling for an end to interventionist positions that compromise regional stability.»

The protests that continue in the Islamic Republic of Iran are immediately triggered by the rising cost of living, inflationary pressure and the daily difficulties faced by the population, a situation that Tehran directly links to the economic blockade, sanctions and isolation promoted by the United States and its allies, as well as the cumulative impact of aggressions and attacks promoted by Israel in the region.

From this perspective, the economic deterioration is consistent with the cumulative result of years of external suffocation, financial restrictions and economic punishments directed against the country, conditions that are then used to fuel social unrest, escalate confrontation and pave the way for further aggression. Faced with this situation, the Iranian authorities warn that those who caused the economic suffocation are now trying to capitalise on it to justify new actions against a country that possesses vast energy reserves, natural gas, oil and a key strategic position, setting the stage for a scenario in which the ultimate goal transcends the protests and aims at controlling resources and redefining the balance of power in the Middle East.
